Needle Exchange Program
Offering new, clean needles in exchange for used needles helps to stop the spread of HIV and Hepatitis C and provides a safe means of disposal for used needles.
Our needle exchange program is anonymous and discrete. In order to participate, an individual 18 years or older must enroll in this anonymous program. Minimal, non-identifying information is gathered, and a member number is provided to you for use during your future exchanges. We provide referrals for your needs if necessary. Upon enrollment, a new member can obtain up to ten new needles. Thereafter, the program is a point for point exchange system. Members return and dispose of used needles in exchange for the same number of new needles allowable under Maine law.
Because this is a free program, funded through private foundations and donations, supplies are limited, and availability is not guaranteed.
